Welcome to KERN's translation office in San Francisco!

San Francisco is the cultural and financial centre of Northern California. The Spanish founded the city as a fort in 1776 on behalf of the religious mission. San Francisco developed rapidly after the California Gold Rush in the mid-19th century. However, during the same period, 75 percent of it was destroyed by a severe earthquake. Its current population is more than 805,000 people.

Today, San Francisco is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. Tourism therefore makes the biggest contribution to San Francisco's economy. Besides the nearby Redwood National and State Parks, the city's numerous unique landmarks, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the cable car system and Chinatown, are the main attractions for visitors from around the world. The financial sector also makes up a large part of the city's economy, since more than 30 leading financial institutions have their headquarters in San Francisco.
