The festivities took place on June 15 and 16 on the grounds of Clay Kaserne in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim and offered a diverse program for all visitors.
KERN Global Language Services interpreting assignment
The interpreting assignment was a significant contribution by KERN to the successful execution of the festivities. Our experienced interpreter simultaneously interpreted the official speeches and the stage program from American English into German and vice versa. Her task was to ensure that the speakers’ messages, including those of high-ranking representatives of the U.S. Army and the State of Hesse, were understood by all visitors.
Through her professional and precise work, our interpreter contributed significantly to the smooth running of the festivities and enabled seamless communication between the international guests and the German audience.
The historical significance of the Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was one of the most remarkable humanitarian operations of the post-war period. From June 1948 to May 1949, the Western Allies supplied the blockaded city of Berlin from the air after the Soviet Union had blocked all land and water routes. This humanitarian operation secured the survival of the West Berlin population and strengthened the Federal Republic of Germany’s ties to the West.
Festivities in Wiesbaden
To celebrate the historical event, the anniversary festival offered a diverse entertainment program. Visitors could view historical aircraft from the Airlift era, marvel at equipment from the U.S. military and the Bundeswehr, and enjoy refreshments at the numerous food stalls. Live music and shows ensured a great atmosphere and a varied experience for young and old.
