For every software package we work on, KERN uses state-of-the-art tools and processes to localize the full user interface, with all its menus, dialog boxes, and buttons as well as online help and printed documentation for use in the target country. We also adapt accompanying files, such as important “readme” information and license agreements, and advertising and packaging materials so that the entire package is appropriate for the target market. In our experience, the best software localization results are achieved when the first step in the process includes both localization of the user interface and layout adjustment to fit the specific needs and qualities of the particular language.
Because the length of text elements can vary widely from one language to the next, KERN adjusts elements such as buttons and data fields to fit the localized text ( “resizing”). The localized user interface then serves as a reference for the translation of the online help and documentation – which is ideally handled by the same team that localized the interface.
