Foreign language services for the automotive industry

New strategies on the processing and production levels and their increasing complexity, as well as the growing interaction between different companies from various technical areas, also places more technical requirements on translations and other foreign language services. KERN AG has been taking on these growing challenges for over four decades, and has tailored its processes in coordination with the production stages of each customer, and implemented these processes efficiently. Our customers include companies from all areas of the automotive industry: starting with automotive manufacturers, tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers, via traders in the OEM and after-market areas, right down to advertising and communication agencies and other service providers who specialize in the automotive field.

Terminology management

Our translators all have access to relevant terminology databases, specific dictionaries (e.g. Wyhlidal) and glossaries which help them convey the message of the source text to the respective target audience correctly. As well as these customer-independent terminology aids, we can also create a company-specific terminology database in cooperation with you. This will help you to consolidate your company's knowledge, and will differentiate you from your competitors.

With the use of the most modern software solutions, we can offer you a comprehensive service portfolio in the following areas:

  • Creation of customer-specific terminology databases by extracting terminology or combining existing terminology lists
  • Effective creation, maintenance, adding to, and adjustment of terminology databases
  • Supply of terminology

Process optimization

Considering the high quantity of documentation in the automotive industry and the associated use of similar text segments and extracts, as well as a high frequency of updates, the use of a translation memory system as a translation aid is indispensable. We work closely with you and your national companies in order to fine-tune the process and to standardize and automate the translation in cooperation with you, whilst saving you time and money.

Quality management

Project management tailored to the automotive industry, the correct choice of translator and proof-reader, and the correct use of databases allow us to create high quality and target-oriented translations. Thanks to this, we are able to transfer the meaning of the source text fully and correctly into the target language, word the translation clearly without spelling or grammatical mistakes, and ensure that the terminology is correct and consistent. Furthermore, the content is adapted to the specific language and cultural conditions of the target market, the translation is checked for consistency with earlier or parallel translations, and the layout of the translation is modeled on that of the source text.

In this context, we are also happy to apply the standard for measuring of translation quality (SAE J2450) specially developed for the automotive industry. Based on given error categories and their weighting, each translation is given a quotient as a measuring value for the translation.

However, KERN AG is not limited to working with specific documents, but rather encompasses an extensive servicing of foreign language communication in the automotive industry:

  • Process control and optimization during the processing of foreign language data, creation of customer-specific workflows
  • Building, maintenance and management of terminology, management of
    translation memory databases
  • Target group oriented and country-specific adaptation of foreign language texts.
