Fully automated data transmission with API4client: The new, powerful REST Interface for portal4client™ Advanced

Recently, KERN Global Language Services reported on the implementation of the COTI Standard and the associated advantages with regard to cross-system interoperability as well as standardized file transfer and processing. In the future, our customers with API4client will also benefit from a REST API or the interface for the portal4client™ customer portal that allows for fully automated integration of the portal, project processing and file transfer. In this way, the full service provider in the field of global language management is meeting the increasingly high customer-specific requirements for flexible, seamless cooperation with the portal4client™ Advanced solution.

Customer expectations regarding automated translation processes are high. The customer system used by KERN, portal4client™ Advanced, with its extensive workflow component, integrated translation memory and terminology databases as well as process automation and file processing options, forms an ideal basis for efficient translation management.

Using API4client, KERN now provides its customers with a REST API to meet the requirements of COTI3, system interoperability and the growing need for process automation and security in the customer-specific translation process. The aim is to ensure there is direct communication between the customer's system and portal4client™ Advanced and to facilitate an automated exchange of information accordingly. Functions can now be controlled and addressed directly via the REST API in portal4client™ Advanced. By using the API’s direct connection to the portal4client™ Advanced, it is not only possible to exchange files, but also to transfer all relevant project parameters to KERN and thus automate the projects from the customer system. In addition, administrative information such as an overview of existing projects, target files or a cost estimate can be queried and displayed in the customer system. Processing an order in the API is status-based, which on the one hand leads to increased transparency and process reliability in the translation process and on the other hand is conducive to the status-dependent provision of functions in the API. Once the quality assurance check on the translation has been completed and the translation has been finalized, the finished translation can, for example, be retrieved from the customer system via the REST API4client completely automatically.

KERN offers extensive documentation about REST-API in order to make the connection to API4client as simple as possible. It lists the available endpoints as well as how to use them correctly, and the necessary parameters. The REST-API specialists at KERN will be happy to provide interested parties with competent advice regarding interfaces at any time.

You can find an overview of the COTI Standard in our previous press release.
