Conference Interpreting: Simultaneous and Consecutive
Simultaneous Interpreting
Simultaneous interpreting requires interpreters to translate while speakers are speaking, either using simultaneous interpreting equipment, such as at conferences, or by whispering the translation directly to the listener.
Ensuring an accurate translation so that listeners understand all of the information during a simultaneous interpreting event requires meticulous preparation by the interpreter.
Consecutive Interpreting
Consecutive interpreting, on the other hand, requires the interpreter to translate after a person has finished speaking. This method is often used at events such as negotiations, symposia, and international conferences.
