Conference Interpreting: simultaneous and consecutive
Simultaneous Interpreting
Simultaneous interpreting requires interpreters to translate simultaneously, either using simultaneous interpreting equipment, in a conference for example, or by whispering the translation directly to the listener. To ensure an accurate translation so that listeners understand all information during a simultaneous interpreting event requires meticulous preparation by the interpreter.
Consecutive Interpreting
Consecutive interpreting, on the other hand, requires the interpreter to translate after a person has finished speaking. This method is often used at events such as negotiations, symposia and international conferences.
